Fairly new to the world of online casino games, Yggdrasil Gaming was officially launched at the end of 2012 by industry expert, Fredrik Elmqvist. By quickly building their portfolio of new offerings up, they saw a large investment from Cherry AB in April 2013. As the two companies work together on creating unique games and ways of playing, operators have begun to show interest in what is effectively still a startup. Fast forward to today and Yggdrasil are the proud owners of an EGR B2B Software Rising Star award, and a lot of ideas for the future.
As mentioned, this company is extremely new in the world of online casino games. Set up in Malta in August 2012, Fredrik Elmqvist is the industry expert behind the business. It took less than a year for the company to get noticed by PlayCherry Malta Ltd, a subsidiary business of Cherry AB. The online gaming operator invested in Yggdrasil, becoming a majority shareholder with 89% of the business. Emil Sunvisson, the CEO of Cherry, said that they were impressed with the quickly built up portfolio of the business, which is what led them to invest. While Yggdrasil is still technically owned and managed by Fredrik Elmqvist, he no longer holds the biggest stake in the company. The online gaming company focuses its efforts on building popular casino games, RNG (Random Number Generator) Lotto, and mobile offerings. According to the Q2 report from Cherry AB, Yggdrasil Gaming saw a revenue of over $2.6 million (just over £1.7 million) in just their share alone. That’s a 136% growth in six months, which Cherry AB believes will continue to grow significantly as new products and games are launched. The head office of Yggdrasil is still in Malta, however they do have a development office in Krakow, Poland, too.
Yggdrasil has put a lot of focus into their innovative lottery gaming methods and software, which is one of the reasons it’s believed they managed to secure investment so quickly. Their Lotto7 Express provides instant draws, so that users can play whenever they want to. This ties in nicely with their Video Scratch, which is a more advanced version of a scratch lottery. Using the new iSense 2.0 platform, which is a platform based on HTML5, they have also released various slot games over the last couple of years. Using iSense 2.0 ensures that games can be released for desktop, mobile and tablet at the same time. Users will then be able to have a completely seamless playing experience, whichever device they choose to play on. Super Free Spins is a unique concept from the business, as well. This year it was tested with operator Vera&John firstly, before being rolled out with the other operators. This concept allows operators to hand out an infinite number of free spins to certain players groups and segments. Players can then effectively ‘spin until they win’ which is something that has never been done in online casino games before. Another innovative idea is the ‘wallet adapter’, which enables simpler and painless payment integrations for operators. All of the new ideas and technology are based on years of industry experience and development.
Games from Yggdrasil
As this company is fairly new, it doesn’t have a huge portfolio of games just yet. However, new games are constantly in development and being released every quarter. This year saw the release of Chibeasties and Cyrus the Virus slot games. Joker Millions was also launched in 2015 and is their first progressive jackpot online slot. Along with various slots, they offer Video Keno and Video Scratch as part of their expanding portfolio. Lotto7 is a daily lottery draw held from Malta, that offers millions of euros worth of prizes every day. The online gaming company is also certified with iTech and Quinel, to ensure that their games are random and fair for the players.
Yggdrasil has been working with Cherry AB to bring in new operators over the last couple of years. While they’re not found on a wealth of websites at the moment, reports from both companies say that there will be more added to the list by the end of this year.
